Letter from the Director
WELCOME TO SUMMER!
WELCOME TO THE ADULT AND CHILDREN’S SUMMER READING PROGRAM!
WELCOME TO LACK OF PARKING AND LONG LINES TO CHECK OUT!
We have gotten off to a rip roaring start to our summer-time fun at the library. As many of you have noticed however, our programs fill up rapidly, leaving disappointed children and cranky parents. Please bear in mind, that we service a population of 40,000 people with limited space, staff and resources. Our community room holds 125 people and we adhere to that limit. Our entertainers cost hundreds of dollars each, which is why we can’t book them as often as we – and you – would like. If you would like to help us offer more or varied programming, we would gratefully accept your donations of any amount.
When you are planning your activities, note the different requirements for our programs. Some you must register in advance (on the phone or in person), some you need tickets which are given out on a first come, first served basis on the day of the event and some are wide open. In addition, if you made it into a program such as Slime or STEM Lab in June, we are asking that you sit out that program in July in order that others may take advantage of the programming. We will still utilize a waiting list in case people who signed up cannot make it. Speaking of which, if you are signed up for a program, but for whatever reason will not be able to attend, please let us know so we can offer your spot to the next person on the list.
And finally, for those regular patrons who just want to come into the library and check out a book, come after 1pm. Things should have quieted down by then.
Thank you all for your understanding.
