From the Director’s Desk

October 2018

Dear Friend,

Last year, we provided the equivalent of $2,308,670 worth of goods and services to our communities. This value represents only that which can be counted and to which a value can be affixed. We are excited to serve our local communities and honored that you, our patrons, have validated our contributions to the community through the services used during the year.

The library is your community center, where you come to experience book clubs, story times, art classes, financial literacy programs, health and wellness awareness presentations and cultural programs.  New moms connect at baby story-times; elderly people, often facing difficult life transitions, attend events and make new friends; teenagers meet up after school; and readers discuss current events or their favorite new book.

We are distinct from any other institution in that our mandate is to serve the entire population’s needs, not those of any special interest. The library is the one place whose sole purpose is to educate, entertain and inform – free of charge and free of judgement.  We are often the point of contact for new residents, a place for adults to use a computer or access free Wi-Fi and an office for business professionals and job hunters. A very dedicated team of librarians and staff consistently deliver quality service to everyone who walks through our doors. We hope you’ll join us in our mission to be a resource center that serves the diverse and changing needs of the community.

In the coming year we’d like to:

·         add new resources and collections in a variety of languages

·         provide pre-loaded e-readers for check out

·         bring more speakers to our community for free lectures

·         acquire a book delivery van

·         replace our HVAC system

·         provide more useful and comfortable space and furniture for you to enjoy all that we have to offer!

While we continue to make all of our materials and most of our programs free to the public, we incur rising costs to deliver the $2.3 million worth of products and services to our community. We receive a portion of our funding from the municipalities and are grateful for their continued support. The balance, though, must be made up through donations, grants, and gifts.

We need you to help us reach our $50,000 goal. You can donate on our website, by mail, or in person and your donation is completely tax deductible.

You are the reason the Library has been so successful. Your continued support ensures our continued success. Please consider a donation today, and let us know what we mean to you.
